In July 2020, Wexton “applauded amendments included in the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to confront the national security threat posed by disinformation, including her own which would require a new standing report on foreign campaigns to spread disinformation and undermine federal elections.“
“Disinformation campaigns are a direct assault on our national security and have the power to undermine the integrity of our elections, erode public trust in our democratic institutions, and even impair our ability to manage crises like COVID-19,” said Wexton.
In March 2021, Wexton introduced H.R.2182 – COVID–19 Disinformation Research and Reporting Act of 2021 to “conduct a study on the spread of COVID–19-related disinformation and misinformation on the internet and social media platforms, and for other purposes.” It’s not quite clear what Wexton considers “disinformation” or “misinformation”, but presumably if you posted on social media that COVID-19 vaccines don’t work, it would be considered disinformation. Fast forward to today and there is enough real-world data that COVID-19 vaccines are not effective at stopping the spread of COVID-19. How many vaccinated people do you know that have attended a conference (that required vax passports nonetheless) recently and tested positive for COVID-19 afterwards? I’ve heard this all too often lately.
With all this concern about disinformation and misinformation and the impact it has on our national security and elections, you’d think Wexton would be a vocal critic of anyone who spreads disinformation/misinformation. You’d be sadly mistaken. Wexton has received nearly $30K this campaign season alone from Adam Schiff, Tim Kaine, Ted Lieu, Steny Hoyer, and Nancy Pelosi who all peddled some form of disinformation about Russian bounties to kill us troops in Afghanistan or Hunter Biden’s laptop.
Like a typical politician, Wexton has a public position and a private position on disinformation/misinformation. Her private position is that disinformation/misinformation are ok so long as it benefits her party and her campaign. Don’t hold your breath waiting for her to admit this though. Simply look at her actions.
